As a way to ensure that the research and development (R&D) needs of NextGen are fully met, a number of JPDO’s leaders–including Ed Waggoner, Director of JPDO’s Interagency Architecture and Engineering Division (IAED) and Lourdes Maurice, JPDO Environment Working Group Government Co-Chair (Acting)–work closely with the National Science and Technology Council’s (NSTC’s) Aeronautics Science and Technology Subcommittee (ASTS). This particular group advises and assists NSTC’s Committee on Technology (COT) with the development of policies, strategies, and plans relating to federally sponsored aeronautics research.
This month, ASTS invites the submission of white papers to help inform the biennial update to the National Plan for Aeronautics Research and Development and Related Infrastructure. The biennial update to the National Plan is directed by Executive Order 13419—National Aeronautics Research and Development, signed on December 20, 2006.
ASTS encourages those individuals who may want to provide information for consideration during the biennial update of the National Plan to submit white papers. Of particular interest is aeronautics R&D information that may be used during consideration of the biennial update to enhance the national aeronautics R&D challenges, goals, and objectives currently contained in the Plan and related to: mobility, national security, homeland defense, aviation safety, energy, and the environment.
White papers will be accepted through September 10, 2009. Related documents and details regarding the submission of white papers are available at www.ostp.gov/aeroplans
